homemade maternity

95% of the maternity clothes I already had from my previous pregnancies are horrible and are in the yard sale/donate pile. In my experience maternity clothes are more often than not either hideously ugly or terribly expensive, or a combination of both. Since neither of those options seem good to me, I decided to make some of my own maternity clothes.

Project 1:
cute knit
I didn't have a pattern so I just used a shirt that I already had as a "guideline". The sleeves were the tricky part.
I think the finished product turned out really cute!

Project 2:
I wanted a comfy dress, something I could live in since I'm gonna be pregnant ALL summer long. I didn't have a pattern for this one either so I just used a shirt I already had that had a few little holes in the bottom part and chopped it.

Easy. A ready made bodice.

For the skirt I just sewed about 5 rows of elastic thread so that it would have a nice stretch, then I attached the 2 pieces. It was a little tricky and it didn't lay exactly perfect so I added like a 2 inch strip of the shirt and sewed it around where the pieces meet and it looks good. But I still like it better with a real belt.

I still have 2 different fabrics that need to be made into something cute... stay tuned..

BIG NEWS!!

Big as in big as a whale!! Whale as in that's how I look by the end!!

WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!!

I am 14 weeks right now, so we feel like we're past the "danger zone". 14 weeks already? Yes. That means that 1 month after my last D&C I got pregnant again. It was a HUGE shock and I was totally not ready to go through it all again. I guess this is the kinda thing that happens when husband comes home after being out of town for almost 2 weeks ;). I've felt great this pregnancy and the baby is developing right on track. I also have been on progesterone because my body doesn't seem to make enough. I just had my last dose this morning! YAY!!
I've already had 2 ultrasounds, it's so wonderful to see and hear the baby's heartbeat and see the baby move, and last week we found out already that it's gonna be a BOY!!!! Also in the ultrasound, we found out that I have a placental tear so I have been put on bed rest for at least the next 2 weeks to see if the tear will heal. Alex now gets to be Mr. mom between work and gets to really realize how much it takes to do everything for 2 kids. :) I also have a great ward that will be bringing meals 3 times a week to help out while I'm on bed rest.

I'd love some good book suggestions. Bed rest is a bit like torture, but anything is worth it to get this baby here, so I'm just gonna grin and bear it. I better go lay back down, I'm kinda breaking the rules sitting up blogging. But I had to, I'm just so excited to share this news!

new shoes for free

Trin's feet haven't grown for a long time and I know that if I bought her a new pair of shoes her feet would grow right away and it would be a waste. The fabric on this pair of shoes lasted about a month then they looked horrible and were not allowed to be worn out of the house. I've seen on a couple blogs where people just mod podge new fabric on to shoes, so I thought I'd give it a try. You probably just don't want to get them wet.

before
Then you just rip off the old stuff, if it's removable.
after
They aren't perfect, but you can't even tell that when she's wearing them. Now that I've had a practice run at it, I have a couple pairs of flats I need to re-invent!

Yesterday's snow is almost melted...

even one of my tulips had made an appearance...

Each day is moving forward toward spring! The season of new growth. So long winter, I will not miss you much.

love is in the air..

This year we made valentines for Trinity to hand out. It was so much funner to do homemade because we got to make them together.

and they are so much cuter than the generic character ones, which nana brought the girls anyway. Fortunatelly they are almost gone. I figure they're not important if they get left on the floor, so when they are, I toss them. I'm such a nice mother.

The middle of the heart flower is a dum-dum. The best part about that was the whole week before V-day I picked out all my favorite flavors and ate them. I hope no one was disappointed not to get a root beer, butterscotch, or mango.

and husband got me the most perfect red roses. My favorite.

Happy Valentines Day!!
