homemade maternity

95% of the maternity clothes I already had from my previous pregnancies are horrible and are in the yard sale/donate pile. In my experience maternity clothes are more often than not either hideously ugly or terribly expensive, or a combination of both. Since neither of those options seem good to me, I decided to make some of my own maternity clothes.

Project 1:
cute knit
I didn't have a pattern so I just used a shirt that I already had as a "guideline". The sleeves were the tricky part.
I think the finished product turned out really cute!

Project 2:
I wanted a comfy dress, something I could live in since I'm gonna be pregnant ALL summer long. I didn't have a pattern for this one either so I just used a shirt I already had that had a few little holes in the bottom part and chopped it.

Easy. A ready made bodice.

For the skirt I just sewed about 5 rows of elastic thread so that it would have a nice stretch, then I attached the 2 pieces. It was a little tricky and it didn't lay exactly perfect so I added like a 2 inch strip of the shirt and sewed it around where the pieces meet and it looks good. But I still like it better with a real belt.

I still have 2 different fabrics that need to be made into something cute... stay tuned..

They really are darling. Where were you 7 months ago for me? I wish we were the same size, and that I was sassy like you, and that we weren't pregnant at the same timeish and that we lived closer.... Cause if I were, I would totally steal you clothes!!
