My mom bought this really cute polka dot knit(1.50 a yard!!) from wal-mart a couple months ago so I could make the girls dresses, and it's just been sitting... waiting for me to feel motivated to make them. Yesterday I felt motivated.
And here's the basic how-to if you want to make one for your little lady. Super EASY and FAST and no pattern needed!! Seriously it took an hour and a half to make them both.
For Trin's dress it was about 50 inches wide, and Elli's was maybe 6 inches less than that. (I didn't worry about length til they tried then on then I trimmed to the right length.)
I shirred (elastic thread on the bobbin) the top part of the dress. 9 rows for each dress.
Then I just cut out the sleeves on the fold and angled them wider at the top then the bottom so they'd cover more shoulder.
Then on each edge I sewed one row of the elastic thread to give it a little ruffle.
While inside out with them wearing them, I pinned the sleeves where they looked good and then sewed them on. Then measured how long I wanted the dress to fall and cut it. I didn't finish any of the edges because I like the way it ruffled and it was easier. I love knits!Ta-Da!
Adorable, but needing one last little touch.A little lace rosette. Made with 1/2" lace that I just wound around then flattened it where I wanted it and zig-zagged all over it.
A cute, easy dress, and all for $3.00 plus a little time!
